In June the Port Townsend Gallery Presents Jewelry Showcase Featuring Six Jewelers
Stephanie Oliveira has been working with jewelry for more than 30 years specializing in one of a kind pieces. She works in silver and gold. A class at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester New York started her on this exciting journey.
Addy Thornton has been fabricating with silver for a two decades. Her work includes dichroic glass and gemstones set in silver. This season Addy is working towards attaining and infusing light into her pieces, whether it is in the refraction of the stones, the play of light off the texture of the silver, or the design itself. Also, she seeks to incorporate other senses into her work. Some of the neck pieces can be used as essential oil diffusers thereby combining the visuals with fascinating scents.
Andrea Guarino-Slemmons has been designing jewelry for over 25 years. She enjoys walking the local beaches and collecting stones, glass and shells. This month Andrea will be featuring jewelry incorporating those treasures. Andrea was awarded the Excellence in Jewelry Artistry Award for 2015 from Bead and Button Magazine. This is an acknowledgment of a body of work by an outstanding artist.
Caroline Littlefield has been making jewelry since the 1970s. For Art Walk, she features pendants and bracelets with fine silver feathers set with semi-precious gemstones, along with pendants and earrings in sterling silver designs run through a rolling mill for texture.
Shirley Moss, “The Chainmaker”, specializes in handmade chains. She creates every chain one link at a time, considering her work as a meditation in metal. She will focus on solid 14 k. gold pieces along with her handmade sterling chains.
Suzy Louise is a metal artist specializing in mixed metal jewelry. The focal point of her jewelry is the stone. Suzy will be featuring jewelry created around fossils such as agatized dinosaur bone, petrified wood, and fossil sand dollar, as well as the beautiful colorful stones of turquoise, malachite, variscite, and Oregon’s polka dot agate.
The Port Townsend Gallery at 715 Water Street is open from 10 to 5 Sunday through Thursday, and Friday and Saturday 10 am to 6 pm. Please join the artists for the Gallery Walk from 5:30 to 8 pm on Saturday, June 3rd. For more Gallery information, phone (360) 379-8110 www.porttownsendgallery.com.
